Season 12

Season 12

Kaleidoscope

Season 12, Kaleidoscope, will feature 5 concerts exploring contrasting musical colors and textures. We are continuing our mission to commission new music and perform works by a diverse group of living composers.

We will wrap up season 12 with the production of our very first album of commissioned works by Robert PatersonAmy BrandonGilad Cohen and Jared Miller. Producing this very first album is a tremendous milestone and we want to extend a huge ‘thank you’ to all our friends for their support.

Season 12 Opener: Kaleidoscope

Thursday, October 6, 2022 - 7pm

Grace & St. Paul's Church

123 71st Street, New York City

Our first concert of the season will feature works exploring a broad range of musical textures, starting with the incisive and percussive "Wax and Wire" by Viet Cuong. Other pieces on the program include "Little Bits" by Stacy Garrop, which comprises five short and fanciful movements. "D'un Soir Triste" (1918), intensely lyrical and dark, is the final work by impressionist composer Lili Boulanger, who passed away at age 24.  Jared Miller's "Absolute," written in 2020 as a way to escape the stress of the pandemic, is a musical kaleidoscope of varying textures and emotions. To close the program, we will premiere "Traveling Light" by Scott Wheeler. Commissioned by Chris Grymes and National Sawdust, this piece is inspired by the color combinations of the clarinet, violin and piano.
